Tanya is a remarkable woman. When I first began consulting with Tanya I knew right away that she was a bit different than most parents that I first meet with after their child has been diagnosed with Autism. She had started out with an EIBI-ABA program and knew right away it was not a ‘best fit’ for her family and had researched other therapy options that were aligned with best practice in infant and early childhood mental health. She felt a model that was emotionally-based and focused primarily on the parent-child relationship was what was best for her and her daughter. She was well read and when learning the principles of guiding a child’s early emotional development and building secure attachment, she was a natural. As time went on she worked very hard and understood and implemented the parent education objectives with an eye that was often reserved for a more experienced clinician. I began to realize that perhaps she had some experience in the field. I remember well our meeting when I paused to ask her about her background and if she would consider training to become an RDI Consultant. She smiled and laughed saying she was about to ask me the same question. I then discovered her international experience and education in the field of psychology. I have been in the field of autism and developmental disabilities for over 25 years, a certified RDI Consultant for over 10 years and I am completing my PhD in Infant and Early Childhood Development with a specialization in Mental Health and Early Childhood Developmental Disorders. Tanya still impresses me with her preparation, reflection, insights and her knowledge from her readings and her practice. I believe Tanya would bring the benefit of her experience in the field and as a practicing RDI parent to any family that chooses to work with her
